A Girl Like You
Maria Geraci
Fiction
This is the first chick lit book
I’ve read in a long time that I actually liked. No, scratch that—I loved it.
A Girl Like You is the story of
Emma, a self-described overweight plain Jane who works for a lifestyle magazine
in Tampa. She has a crush on her boss, but that’s quickly shoved aside when he
starts dating her friend and on a weekend trip home, she starts dating the
popular guy from high school. All the while Emma’s trying to land the interview
of a lifetime with Trip, a famous, media-shy racecar driver whom she went to
high school with.
There is a lot of stuff going on
in this book, but Ms. Geraci balances it well. I especially love Emma. She’s a
great main character: funny, sympathetic, charming, but not without flaws. And
I loved that there was a whole group of potential guys around her that she
could end up with and by the end, I was happy with the one she did finally
realize she wanted.
Anyone who likes chick lit will
enjoy this book. Even those who are prejudiced against it should give it a try and see there's so much more to this genre then girl-tries-to-snag-guy.
